5 Myths About Christianity

5 Myths About Christianity! read my post about 5 myths the world tends to believe about christians.

Hello! Welcome back. *insert alluring, peppy intro here*

Today we’re going to chat about 5 myths the world may believe about Christianity. You’ve probably heard some of these, or maybe you believe them yourself. I’m going to give it to you straight!

#1 – Christians hate gays!

Whoa! I am wasting no time! Gettin’ straight to da controversy!

Yes, I am a Christian. Yes, I am a conservative. Yes, I believe that the LGBTQ community is wrong. Yes, I believe America is forsaking God in the name of “tolerance”.

Nor do I hate transgender people, Lesbian people, Bisexual people, or even the new genre of sodomy- “questioning” people.

I have a couple of friends who are of the persuasion that they are created by God to be a certain way. I certainly do not hate them and neither does the Lord. I am not their judge.

God is.

God commands us to love people. I do not agree with the LGBTQ community and I will NEVER support it, but I also do not believe in being hateful.

Ain’t nobody gonna become a Christian through hate. We need to spread the truth in love.

#2 All Christians are a bunch of hypocrites!

There are hypocrites everywhere. I know that it hurts worse when a professing Christian is a hypocrite. I know. It stinks.

But we have to realize that we’ve ALL been hypocrites.

We have all pulled the “Do as I say and not as I do” trick at least once in our lives. We all have to admit that whether we’re Christians or not.

There are good Christians out there that aren’t a walking hypocrisy. But people go to Church, not because they’re perfect and holy, but rather because they AREN’T. If they were perfect, why would they need to go hear any preaching or fellowship with believers? They’re perfect!

Christians are really just a group of regular hot mess people that have found the only way to clean up the mess- Jesus Christ.

I like what I read on a meme on Pinterest,

“Not going to church because of all the hypocrites is like not going to the gym because of all the fat people.”

#3 Christianity is just a bunch of rules!

This one is a classic.

“I don’t want to be a christian because I don’t want to follow all those stupid guidelines.”

If all you see when you see Christianity is a rule book, YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG.

Yes, the bible has principles that we are to obey and implement. But, honestly, Christianity is the biggest freedom you’ll ever find. Freedom from sin, Hell, guilt, and depression. None of the rules in the Bible are oppressive.

God’s way is always the best way. He created you, so you can trust him with anything. If you can’t trust that the God who created you knows what’s best for you, how can you trust anyone??

Life is full of rules, but life is not full of solutions to your problems. Following the rules doesn’t save you. Only Jesus does!

#4 Christians ONLY want to hang out with other Christians

This one is not unfounded. But it is wrong.

Everyone on earth makes friends with people they feel are compatible with them. Friends usually have the same hobby, sense of humor, lifestyle, dream, or passion.

It’s the same with Christians. We love to make friends with like-minded believers who share the same passion for God that we have. It’s natural. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t have non-christian friends.

The bible says we are to be in the world, but not of it. I can be your friend without endorsing everything you believe. I can be your friend without partaking in your sin.Β

Hate the sin, not the sinner. We’re all sinners. None of us are perfect. A good Christian can be friendly with anyone.

#5 Christianity is all happiness and rainbows all the time because “God is LOOOOVE” ❀

This one is probably the biggest lie on this list.

Yes, God is love! God loves you even if you aren’t saved.

And yes, your life will be a lot easier if you follow Jesus, but not in the way you think.

There are some preachers out there that tell you that if you follow Jesus, you’ll get everything you want and everything will be easy and peacefull. The cross is on the corner of Wall Street and Easy Street.

People will hate you for what you believe. They’ll mock you, laugh at you, put you down, make you look bad, and plot your downfall just for serving God. Look at what they did to Jesus! The servant is not above his master. They hated him, they’ll hate you too.

Christians are called name like bigot, homophobe, hater, hypocrite, intolerant, and more. Talk shows bring christians on just to argue with them and make them look stupid. It’s nothing new.

Being a Christian is not easy. But although we’re hated, we have the blessed hope of Heaven and the knowledge that no matter how much the world disagrees with the Bible, we have the God who created EVERYTHING on our side. If He’s for us, who can be against us. It’s worth all the names and hate to know that, if we’re saved, we’re right with God and saved from sin, destruction, and Hell.
There you have it! 5 myths about Christianity. I hope I was able to clear some things up!
